Mom Life Monday | 10 Things They Don’t Tell You About Pregnancy

Hi Lovelies,

When I got pregnant I was told a million times how wonderful pregnancy is and how much I was going to love it. Although I did love being pregnant, I was shocked to find out first hand that there were so many things I was not told about being pregnant. I’m not sure if it’s your bodies coping mechanism to mind erase moms as soon as they enter motherhood to convince them to do it all over again or if mom’s are so sleep deprived they actually don’t forget it all.

I compiled a list of the top 10 things people don’t tell you about being pregnant. I wanted to do this before the mind eraser happened to me as well 😉

You can view my Youtube video here!

10. Leaky boobs

While you may know that with pregnancy comes leaky boobs, some of you may not know that some women will leak colostrum prior to childbirth. If you suddenly feel like a zoo animal with all the stares that are focused on your lovely lumps it may be because your colostrum is soaking through your shirt for everyone to admire.

9. Vaginal Discharge

Make sure to stock up on pantiliners in your third trimester because you will need them with the amount of discharge you will be excreting from your body.

8. Hemorrhoids, UTI’s & Yeast Infections

That growing baby in your belly that you have come to love is quickly increasing in weight putting added pressure in your abdomen, which may enlarge the veins in the lower rectum and anus giving you the joyful gift of a hemorrhoid . Luckily, for most women, hemorrhoids caused by pregnancy disappear after childbirth.

Drink plenty of water during your pregnancy and do not hold your urine in even when you have to go every 15 minutes to prevent UTI’s from sneaking up on you.

Yeast infections are also common for pregnant women to get so keep up with your intake of probiotics to keep that cottage cheese friend at bay.

7. Gas

Start staking out an alternate dwelling for yourself void of any living organism because come your third trimester your body will be producing gas with a smell you didn’t think was possible to create.

6. Heartburn

You may have never experienced any issues with heartburn prior to pregnancy but that burning throat pain can sneak up on you when you least expect it. The best way to relieve this pain is by drinking a glass of milk to coat your stomach or taking some Tums. It’s always a good idea to carry Tums with you in your purse along with some crackers throughout your pregnancy.

5. Constipation

You may have no issues when it comes to pooping, but once pregnant arrives you may not be so regular anymore. Drinking probiotic or eating a yogurt a day can help alleviate this issue and keep your bathroom time minimal.

4. Sensitive gums

During pregnancy your gums become increasingly more sensitive. During regular brushing and flossing you can expect to look like you just walked off the set of the walking dead. Don’t be alarmed when you spit and you see blood tinged toothpaste running down the sink.

3. Swollen Vag

You may not remember what your vag looks like since it’s been a while since you were able to see it over you expanding bump but it definitely didn’t look the way the one in mirror looks like. Don’t worry once that baby is out and not pressing down on your cervix anymore your vag will go back to looking like it’s normal self again.

2. Dark spots

During pregnancy, you can expect to form dark spots all over and brown lines will creep up in all your crevices, under your arms, in your bum crack, down your belly to your who ha. These usually start to fade a few months after birth.

1.  Stretch marks

With your expanding body comes the joy of permanent stretch marks. Typically if you got them during your growth spurt you are more prone to getting them during pregnancy. Applying stretch mark cream like Palmers and vitamin E oil that is good at penetrating the skin can help prevent them but some of us no matter hoe religiously we apply are destined to receive this lovely mark of love. Unfortunately, there is no magic eraser for the skin and creams can only do so much to help them fade. If they are really bothersome laser therapy can help diminish those lines.

Now that I have let you in on the pregnancy secrets mother’s omit from you, you can imagine the joy you receive once your baby is born that can enable you to forget it all and only remember the bliss they call pregnancy.

XOXO,

Crystal
